Aura Glass – The Wine Glass Redesigned

Redesigned Wine Glass: Aura Glass as Reviewed By GetDatGadget.com

Wine connoisseurs insist that wine is best if it is given time to “breathe”. This is done through a process that is known as aerating the wine. Aerating wine can be done using funky looking tools known as wine aerators, or you can pour the entire bottle of wine into a decanter, or you can just gently swirl the wine in your glass.

Yes, there is actually a purpose to wine swirling besides trying to look cool and sophisticated at a dinner party. But do it wrong and you get an embarrassing red patch on the front of your shirt or blouse. The easy and fun way to aerate your wine in a glass is to use the Aura Glass.

The Aura Glass is the wine glass redesigned. The glass pivots on a stainless steel ball and instead of manually swirling your wine in your hand, you just place the wine-filled glass on the table and give it a gentle push. The perfectly balanced Aura Glass will then pivot on the steel ball while gently swirling and aerating your wine at the same time.

The glass itself is made from high quality lead-free glass using state-of-the-art technology. Two different glass sizes are available, a larger one for red wines and a smaller one for white wines. However, we are not snobs and do not judge on how you use your wine glasses.

The Aura Glass has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to make this unique and revolutionary wine glass a reality. If you are interested in introducing a little bit of fun at your next dinner party, you can pledge for a couple of Aura Glasses of your own by going to their Kickstarter page.

Update: Unfortunately, the Aura Glass did not manage to get funded on Kickstarter but you can still get a set of Aura Glasses via AuraGlass.com.

From Corporate Grind to Creative Success

Aura Glass is more than just an average startup business; it is the result of the unexpected experiences we as a couple have encountered throughout our personal and professional journeys. As we transitioned from the daily corporate grind to being fully invested entrepreneurs, we discovered the great rewards that come with transforming a shared passion into a unique product.

Coming together to take the plunge

Aura Social-option

Our arrival at entrepreneurship resulted from travels along an unpredictable route. My roots lie in India, where I was born and spent several years traveling abroad for both business and pleasure. Keven also traveled worldwide for his work, leading to a moment in 2010 when our journeys crossed paths.

After losing touch for a couple of years, we reunited and developed the relationship we have today. Brought up worlds apart, from different religions, cultures and countries, we could never imagine in our wildest dreams that we’d be together. We grew fond of each other and connected over our mutual business experience, worldly views and entrepreneurial spirit. Respecting my cultural values, I asked Keven to meet my parents just four or five months after we started dating. My parents loved him—they even made a day’s trip to the U.S. to meet his parents—and voila! Here we are.

The foundation of our relationship is very strong, because we made the impossible possible—and Aura Glass has been built with the same principles and values. Our shared passion for creation and creativity has resulted in this product. As cheesy as it may sound, we like to say that Aura Glass is our first baby.

Crafting reality out of a dream – Here’s what we did

From the moment we first thought of this idea, we knew we wanted to create a product that was completely one-of-a-kind and beautifully designed. As we transitioned our skills in management and lean startups into Aura Glass, the company began to take form.

We spent considerable time experimenting with the essential design elements, but more importantly, we market-tested the designs from the earliest stages to gain valuable customer feedback. As passionate entrepreneurs, we wanted to take all the right steps right from the start, including obtaining patents and trademarks. But what worked well for us was to not spend a lot of time and money before releasing the first version of the product.

Starting out, we set up display booths at wine and liquor shops to gain feedback in exchange for some incentives. We also utilized platforms like Kickstarter to test our hypothesis. The Kickstarter campaign did not go as expected, but it helped validate price points, target customers, highlight product features and gauge demand. This is our two cents of advice to all entrepreneurs out there: test your product early on, before spending immense amounts of time and money only to discover you’ve created something that customers don’t want. It’s better to fail early on, and use that experience to create the next, better version of the product, than to fail later and give up on your idea altogether!

Prototype Pictures

But don’t think this approach requires less work. For us, it meant countless hours of unyielding effort. Early testing meant a much more intense prototyping exercise, and much more attention to detail to create the final product. Why? Because we knew exactly what was working and what wasn’t, and we weren’t willing to compromise on the quality of our product. Each day we analyzed our efforts, learned from them and moved forward toward our goals.

Building a future for Aura Glass

Both Keven and I still have our full-time jobs, so before embarking on this adventure we knew we were signing up to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. After much effort and many sleepless nights, Aura Glass officially launched in December 2015. Through our website, we are now able to sell our exceptional glass products directly to consumers.

Our first product is an artisan hand-blown Aura Glass. A specialty glass blower from Vermont crafts each glass by hand with care. We then assemble and test each product in Connecticut. That’s how we started to create this high-quality, exclusive product, and that’s what we want our customers to enjoy. Of course, this exclusivity comes at a price.

Each stemless glass we create is anchored by a stainless steel ball, which allows the piece to pivot a full 360 degrees when rested on a table. Checkout this 50 second video to see it for yourself.

Not only does this design offer our customers an expressive and creative way to enjoy a beverage, but it also serves a functional purpose for wine enthusiasts. As the glass gently rotates, it blends the wine’s singular aromas and flavors.

In order to create a second line of mid-range priced glasses without compromising the quality, we are exploring larger manufacturers within the U.S. We will never create a lower quality product — to do so would go against our philosophy. Quality is at the heart of Aura Glass, and we truly believe customer loyalty is a direct result of the perceived quality.

Through Aura Glass, we are creating something more than a novel way of enjoying a beverage — we are crafting an elegant conversation starter, a unique drinking experience and a product that can enrich countless gatherings. Just as our own personal journey tells a story of making the impossible possible, Aura Glass has given life to a product that is anything but ordinary.

Aura Glass is a rotating goblet that aerates your wine with the touch of a finger. Unlike any other wine glass, Aura Glass pivots on a stainless steel ball, which blends the beverage’s aromas and flavors. As an example, Aura glass makes it easy to aerate a glass of wine without the need for a separate decanter or device.

After testing the glass out with different levels of liquid, I discovered that five ounces or less is ideal in terms of getting the glass to make several revolutions.  Also of import is that the surface on which it rests must be level and smooth.

Pros: Holding the glass in the hand feels good, like a snifter without a foot.  But, you also feel more careful when setting it down. Visually, the glass is intriguing and a great conversation piece.  I found myself rotating the glass around quite a bit as I socialized.  I can imagine a table with several of these glasses all spinning at the same time.  Kind of like a show where someone keeps a number of plates spinning.

Cons: It doesn’t aerate wine as well as a hearty swirl in a stemmed glass.  Storage is a bit of an issue as you need to place it upside-down and it has a large “footprint”.  Kids will want to play with this glass at dinner.

Overall, it is a fun piece of glassware that will create a festive atmosphere.

The Aura Glass Freely Swirls to Blend a Drink’s Aromas & Flavors

The Aura Glass is a unique wine vessel that effortlessly rotates itself in order to swirl and blend aromatics and flavors together. The goal for this wine glass is to enhance each consumer’s beverage experience by elevating the flavors and overall enjoyment of the wine.

The Aura glass is designed like a long-stemmed wine glass except without the handle. Instead of the stem, this glass has a marble-like ball in the center that acts as the anchoring point. This ball ensures the wine glass is able to roll without spilling.

This vessel will make wines taste better while presenting each beverage in a unique fashion. The glasses are clear to allow each consumer a full view of the liquid contents that continuously swirls around.Stats for Effortless Rotating Wine Glasses

With Aura Glass, You’ll Never Spill Your Wine Again

My boyfriend likes to say that I’m not very “body aware.” That’s his nice way of saying I’m clumsy. In the past year or so my clumsiness has definitely gotten to be less but, unfortunately, I have to admit that he’s totally right. I was the girl who always had bruises on her shins and I’m the woman who is very, very likely to drop dishes in the sink.

So products like Aura Glass are kind of perfect for people like me. Aura Glass is a brand new take on the classic wine glass. Instead of a bulbous top teetering on a long, thin stem (and I can’t even tell you how many of those stems I’ve broken over the years), the Aura Glass is configured to balance on its side and a ball on the bottom. Now, before you freak out, let me clarify that it’s perfectly balanced to never fall over, unless you, like, flip it upside down. And if you’re flipping wine glasses upside down, you’re probably done for the night anyway.

The Aura Glass has a little weighted ball on the bottom that provides a perfect center of gravity for swishing and swirling your wine in order to release its flavors and aromas. (Or for looking like you know what you’re doing when you pour wine for guests because, let’s be real, that’s like 80% of that ritual.) Their idea is to create a decanter and a glass all in one, so that all of your wines get the breathing experience they deserve.

As for design, the creators of Aura Glass are committed to the simplicity of classic glassware design, which mean you’ll be getting that high-end, minimal, handcrafted look and feel while still being able to rely on the consistency of a machine-made object.

So the Aura Glass is a wine glass that makes wine taste better and is virtually impossible to knock over and break? It sounds like the ideal wine glass to me. Check out their website here for more details or contribute to their Kickstarter campaign after September 29 and get on the early bird list for your own Aura Glasses!
